Three day lyrical challenge – Day two

I would like to share the lyrics to a song by my favourite band – Linkin Park.

Song: Iridescent

Album: A thousand suns

Year of release: 2010

Genre: Rock

When you were standing in the wake of devastation
When you were waiting on the edge of the unknown
And with the cataclysm raining down
Insides crying, “Save me now!”
You were there, impossibly aloneDo you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go. Let it go

And in a burst of light that blinded every angel
As if the sky had blown the heavens into stars
You felt the gravity of tempered grace
Falling into empty space
No one there to catch you in their arms

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go. Let it go

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go. Let it go

Let it go
Let it go
Let it go
Let it go

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go. Let it go

The song Iridescent” is a rock ballad about hope in the midst of chaos and sadness. The song really helps me get out of sadness and grief. It’s about letting go and moving on. Taking about other interpretations the entire album ‘ A Thousand Suns’ is a concept album dealing with human fears like nuclear warfare. This song also highlights the same concept, for example, ” burst of light that blinded every angel” can be understood as a nuclear explosion which produces a hell amount of light which can even blind the angels,” standing in the wake of devastation” sways toward the aftermath . Nuclear wars were a looming threat not so long ago, hence this album highlights those issues. Taking it generally, it asks us to move on in life, let go of our envy, frustration and sadness. I love this song and it’s still one of my favourites.

Trivia:

1. “Iridescent” serves as the theme song for the film Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

2.  The album’s title is a reference to a line in the Hindu Sanskrit scripture the Bhagavad Gita“If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendour of the mighty one”
